Paris Summer Olympics 2024 Games Then and Now NO Prep Lesson Plan

Paris 2024 torch has been lit this morning in ancient Olympia. The first sign of the games has officially started. This year, the Olympic Games return to Paris, France. This is the city’s third time hosting the games. Even more interesting is the fact that it was, a Frenchman by the name of Baron de Coubertin who revived modern Olympics. He brought the Olympic Games to Paris in 1900 with the goal of uniting nations through the love of sports. So, here we are, looking forward to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games which will surely bring joy, hope, and fun. The Ancient Olympics were so important that the Greeks stopped all wars for the time being.

The Paris 2024 Olympic Games Torch

The Olympic torch has been lit and it will pass over 3100 miles in the relay all the way to France over the next 100 days. The first torchbearer, Stefanos Douskok will run the torch by the monument that honors Baron de Coubertin, the father of modern Olympics. The torch symbolizes peace and friendship.

Paris 2024 Olympics officially start on July 26th and end on August 11th. 10,500 athletes will compete in 39 events across 32 sports. There are five new sports to watch; sport climbing, breaking (aka breakdancing), skateboarding, and surfing. Surfing is an all-out hit in my class, and it is likely the case in all coastal towns. We have just learned how the points were scored yesterday, with the two highest waves being taken into account. The surfing events will take place in Tahiti.

There is also a long list of athletes that we are looking forward to watching. Even though the Summer Olympics will take place over the summer break, teaching about the Olympic Games with the games coming up is as good as it gets. It actually makes it an ideal summer project.

Paris 2024 Olympic Games Ancient and Modern Olympics Pack has been updated. It is an ideal pack for teaching about the Ancient and Modern Olympics, the differences, Greek culture, customs, traditions, rules and how they have changed, sports played and how the sports have changed, symbols and their meanings, and many more.

The Paris 2024 Mascot is inspired by the Phrygian cap, which is a liberty hat. Worn by Europeans in ancient times and during the French Revolution in 1700s. The two, triangle shaped, red hats are the Paris 2024 Olympic mascots.
