100th Day of School Classroom Celebration with Books and Activities

The Three Little Pigs Count to 100 by Grace Maccarone Hundred Days of School Lesson and Activities

A 100th Day of School is a real teaching and learning milestone for teachers and students. We mark this momentous occasion with fun activities in and out of the classroom. First, it’s the 100th day of school dress-down theme day. Each year we pick out a different theme. It’s a week of celebration and fun learning activities, which are almost always cross-curricular.

Counting up to 100 is always a perfect activity for preschool and primary-grade students. With preschoolers and primary students who are still grasping a sense of numbers, hands-on activities, and number charts are the best. Whether your students are making necklaces out of cheerios or counting pennies, they will benefit from and have fun with the multi-sensory approach. Plus there are arts and crafts to take home and show off their math skills.

Students in primary grades (1st-3rd) can explore number patterns, skip counting, and place values through the number chart pattern recognition. The place value concept proves to be a difficult one, especially for 1st graders, so time and practice on the number chart are perfect.

The Three Little Pigs Count to 100 by Grace Maccarone Hundred Days of School Lesson and Activities are a yearly read in primary grades. This resource is great for practicing geometry, spatial reasoning, story sequencing, grammar, and number sense.

  • For Upper Elementary Students, the 100th Day of School is also a hit. Tweak the activities and make them a bit more challenging. Students in grades 3rd through 5th love competition. Lean into their love of games!
  • For Math: 5-minute addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division drills. These are always a hit. I create them on the study-aids site. My students not only want to beat their classmates but also want to challenge themselves.
  • For Language Arts: Challenge your students to write a 100-word story. The number 100 can be used but it’s not a must. The story has to have a problem, a solution, and a lesson.

Play a spelling bee challenge in which students try to spell correctly one of the 100 commonly used sight words for their grade.

Have a FUN 100th Day!
