“The Halloween Tree” by Susan Montanari is a fresh 2019 Halloween picture book addition to our classroom library. The Little Tree doesn’t like decorations and is quite grumpy about becoming a beautiful tree. Determined to stay leafless, it finds a new purpose in life and is saved by the children by the end of the story. This is a super engaging Halloween story. There are some wonderful Halloween Trees to be made. This lesson plan includes both, space for students’ Halloween Trees and a coloring + decorating activity, as well as, reading comprehension questions, proofreading activity, past tense activity, word search, and cause & effect activity.
There is a pattern when it comes to Natasha Wing books, they are all loved by kids. “The Night Before Halloween” is a must read during Halloween season. This book is perfect for students in grades K-2, and like other Wing’s books, delivers catchy rhyme, a funny twist to a plot, and realistic moments. Every Halloween story has that one house that was too scary to go to. Unlike other holidays, Halloween doesn’t have many children’s story classics. “The Night Before Halloween” is a definite re-read year after year. 5 out of 5 stars!
