Women In Science NGSS Lessons Bundle highlights the lives of four amazing women scientists who showed a love of science and nature from an early age. This cross-curricular language arts and science unit study of engaging biographies also aligns with the Next Generation Science Standards.

From Marie Tharp’s ocean mapping and the continental drift theory to Mary Anning’s study of rock formations, fossils, weathering, and erosion. And of course, Wangari’s Trees of Peace teach about the interdependence of humans and the natural world. Deforestation is a worldwide problem. Deforestation and soil erosion are major causes of famine and war. Wangari’s Trees brought and still bring peace in the literal sense for they sustain communities and prevent famine.
Lastly, in “Counting on Katherine” students learn about a mathematician, Katherine Johnson, who saved Appolo 13 by bringing the crew and the spaceship back to Earth with her calculations during the pre-computer era.
