“Dinosaur Lady” – by Linda Skeers – Pdf & Nearpod Lesson Plan – The Daring Discoveries of Mary Anning, the First Paleontologist- “Dinosaur Lady” is a perfect elementary science story. Mary Anning made her discoveries on the shores of Lyme Regis, England in the early 1800s. In 2010, Mary was finally recognized by the Royal Society of London as one of the ten most influential British women of science. Even though during her lifetime, Mary wasn’t allowed to join the Geological Society of London, her discoveries were both substantial and extensive. While Mary spent her life poor and unrecognized, she is bound to inspire many who read about her life story. Marta Alvarex Miguens illustrations do wonders in bringing this story to life. The topic of dinosaurs is one of the top three in elementary schools and the story of a determined science girl makes this a repeated growth mindset and STEM read.
