“The Dance of the Violin” by Stinson and Petricic is a must have growth mindset book for elementary age kids. What makes this book special is that it is so relatable to all my students who play an instrument, to all student athletes, and all those who spend countless hours practicing a skill, be it drawing, dancing, reading, etc.
Joshua’s love of music jumps off the page. Excited about his first competition, he chooses the most special and perhaps the most difficult piece to perform. The nauseating feeling is so familiar. After timeless practice, there is always a chance of failure.
In the age, when many schools hire a coder to orchestrate STEM competitions and school placing, keeping students grounded to daily skill practice of their choosing is more important than ever. After all, we can always hire a coder or a robot, but the true mastery can only be gained by ourselves.
Again, told and illustrated masterfully by Kathy Stinson and Dusan Petricic.
