The author helped make the Cherokee story quite vivid through the use of direct quotes from multiple sources and points of view.  This non-fiction text includes the overview of the Cherokee Nation history, the Georgia Rules, causes and effects of disagreements between state and federal government, the treaty creation and disagreements, the forced removal, the trail journey, and the post trail settlement. “The Trail of Tears” is an ideal text for the Native American study month of November.
